Appearance: Arley is a handsome man, with golden blonde hair and deep brown eyes. He is tall, standing at six feet even, and has a medium build. He isn't as fit as the dragonriders, but he tries hard not to let all of those pastry tastings make him fat. He has a medium complexion, and tans easily in the sun.
One interesting thing about his appearance are the many small scars he has from Hatchings. There is a scar on his calf from when a dragonet knocked him down and stepped on his leg; a slight bump on his nose from when a flailing hatchling's wing broke it; and a long scar across his stomach from when an angry hatchling lashed out at him.
Personality: He is a drama queen! Whatever he does, he tends to do it to an excess--flirting, wine, gambling. Arley loves to be the center of attention and he'll do whatever it takes to be there. He likes to have all eyes on him and he gets very jealous when he feels like someone is taking his spotlight. He is incredibly whiny and complains loudly to anyone nearby when even the smallest thing is getting on his nerves. Arley also has quite the weakness for gossip, and he's the worst person to confide in. He can never keep a secret.
He is rather ambitious and wants to make a name for himself even though he is just weyrfolk, not a dragonrider. His main method of doing this is by leeching on to important people. And he thinks the best way to do that is by sleeping with them. Arley is very flirtatious, and not very picky about whose bed he ends up in. If his flirting gets him something else, all the better.
History: Arley was born in Crom Hold, the middle child of a mining family. His father was a miner, and his mother was a houswife. He doesn't like to talk about his childhood much. It wasn't bad, but he always wanted to get out of the Hold and escape a future as a miner. He says that his real life began when he was Searched at age 15 and brought to Ista Weyr.
Arley fell in love with the Weyr instantly. He let go of the pretense that had been his life until now, and let his true personality shine through. In the Weyr, Arley made more friends--and lovers--than ever before. The only downside was that he never Impressed. He kept standing until he was 20, with no luck. Finally the Candidate Master told him that he had to step down from candidacy.
He was devastated, but resolved to stay in the Weyr. He got a job in the kitchens, helping the cook. There he learned how to bake, and found that he was rather good at it. Five turns later, he has become an experienced baker and he is behind most of the desserts in the dining hall.
