Snowy Pern
An alternate Eighth Pass Pern.
An alternate Eighth Pass Pern.
During the Seventh Interval, Pern changed. This wasn't one of those small changes that went unnoticed but would have big results. This was one that had people complaining the moment it began.
"It's so sharding cold out today," one would complain.
The answer would inevitable be, "Even colder than yesterday."
It was during this Interval that the first known ice age of Pern became a fact. With temperatures dipping so far below freezing at a regular basis, species had to adapt or give way to species who could adapt. Luckily, dragons faced the challenge and evolved (though some call it more a revolution than an evoltion) to grow fur. Whers and firelizards soon followed and now, mere Turns before the Eighth pass is slated to begin, not a single hide-only dragon is to be found. Only places like Southern Boll and Ista have a more tempered climate and they thrive, trading food and other supplies to the more Northern Weyrs.
Telgar Weyr is so far North that it is covered in snow throughout the turn. Society and life has adapted there to cope. Not everyone could or wanted to go further south to flee the cold.
What do we offer you?
A very new Weyr, but with already an enthusiastic group, a lovable if slightly unhinged admin (I promise I won't bite!) and dragons so fluffy you're gonna die. While we use only the colours available in the books, we count ourselves as a semi-canon Weyr in that we've changed so much about the time line by introducing an ice age and changing the species, not to mention allowing members the chance to think up species they think would do well in Telgar's new climate, that we can't count ourselves as completely canon.
We offer you travel by sleds, communal sleeping areas (body heat people, body heat!), gender issues, the rare chance of a women to Impress brown, the opportunity to create animal species that would fit in the new climate and most of all: fun.
We're not very demanding. There is no character ratio, though of course hoarding rankers and shinies is discouraged. The only activity checks we'll have are for ranking characters, the list of which is posted in the OOC Rules section. We stick as close to canon ratios as we can and while this does mean that there won't be a gold in every clutch that shouldn't matter because every dragon, be they gold or green, has been written with great care.
